Skylar lives in, supports, and volunteers for the communities she serves. In 2016 and 2017, Skylar co-chaired the Lakewood Home Tour, which contributes thousands of dollars each year to Lakewood Elementary School, J.L. Long Middle School, and Woodrow Wilson High School. In her role as co-chair, Skylar scoured Lakewood to identify architecturally and historically significant properties for inclusion on the tour.
For Skylar, the Lakewood Home Tour provides a priceless opportunity to learn more about her neighborhood. “East Dallas has a rich history,” Skylar says. “Each home has an amazing story, and I love learning about our past while helping improve our future. ” In past years, Skylar has served as historian, home captain, and home captain coordinator for the Lakewood Home Tour. Skylar now serves as the Vice President of the Lakewood Early Childhood PTA, as well as a board member and Kindergarten Round-Up Chair for the Lakewood Elementary PTA.
Skylar’s penchant for improving childhood education in East Dallas is shaped by her past. After graduating from Texas Christian University, Skylar worked for seven years as an elementary school teacher in Dallas, eventually obtaining a master’s degree in education administration. Skylar donates her time to improving elementary education in East Dallas. She is also a member of the East Dallas Chamber of Commerce and the TCU Alumni Association.
